At this year's SIGGRAPH, Committee member Glenn Goldman (New Jersey Institute of Technology) moderated the session Preparing Students to Take the Next Step: School to Work Transition (Demo Reels and Beyond), an Educators’ Forum panel with industry representatives speaking about what students need to do in order to facilitate their entry into industry.

One of the presenters was Jimmy Ockey, Recruitment Supervisor at Animal Logic (Vancouver, BC, Canada). He has been kind enough to supply us with a PDF based on his presentation, to share with the education community.

These images and videos were screened at the Education Committee Booth throughout the week at SIGGRAPH 2019 in Los Angeles, CA. The curated exhibit was open to all faculty working at Secondary/High School through University levels. All submissions were required to be accompanied by the assignment, in PDF format. The assignments are shared below with fellow educators around the world for use in their classrooms.

The work will be screened throughout the conference July 28th - August 1st at the Education Committee booth located in The Village. Call for Participation: 8th Annual Faculty Submitted Student Work Exhibition

PURPOSE:

The exhibit gives your school the opportunity to showcase your student’s best work to the rest of the industry. After the conference, the entire presentation will be posted on the Education Committee website along with the corresponding project assignments to share with fellow faculty.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

By Faculty/School - No individual student submissions accepted
Assignment(s) of submitted student work MUST accompany all video(s) and image(s) submitted. PDF format preferred. Student work will NOT be accepted without corresponding assignments.
All submissions will use the provided PowerPoint Template
- FSSW_Template_2019.ppt
Still Images
- Images should be placed in the PowerPoint template.
- Metadata filled in.
- Preferred resolution 1280x720 (JPG/TIFF/PNG format/RGB)
- LIMIT: 50 images per school/university
Video
- Please upload all videos individually to either YouTube.com or Vimeo.com.
- URLs should be placed in the PowerPoint template
- Please DO NOT embed actual videos
- Screen caps/still images of videos should be included.
- Metadata filled in.
- Preferred resolution 1280x720 or larger 16:9 aspect ratio format.
- Audio can be included (*may or may not be audible during the conference)
- Video can be short individual clips or full projects/films.
- Videos will be downloaded and embedded in the final PowerPoint screened at the conference. After the conference, the still image and URL will replace the videos in the downloadable PDF version of the PowerPoint located on our site.
- LIMIT: 10 minutes of video per school/university
Metadata for all images and videos include:
- Student(s) name
- School name
- Course Name
- Faculty name
- Project name

SIGGRAPH 2019’s Educator’s Forum will showcase material that comes through SIGGRAPH’s Unified Jury in the form of panels, talks, courses, and Groovy Graphics Assignments. We want to see and hear how the latest graphics research can be woven into the classroom, and we want to hear from the industry as to what skillsets they want their newest employees to have.

Groovy Graphics Assignments

Groovy Graphics Assignments (GGAs) are peer-reviewed course assignments focusing on computer graphics and interactive techniques. They are meant to be made available for educators to easily search, download, and try in their classrooms.

The ACM SIGGRAPH Education Committee sponsors the SpaceTime juried International Student Poster Competition and Online Exhibition 2019.

Deadline May 19, 2019

The SpaceTime 2019 International Student Competition provides an excellent opportunity for students attending schools at the College/University levels or High School/Secondary levels to exhibit their computer-based media creative work nationally and internationally. Entries will be judged by international jurors on the basis of solution of the theme, artistic merit, design, originality, technical excellence, and content.

The first two winners will receive a non-transferable complimentary Conference Select registration to the conference, http://s2019.siggraph.org/ which does not include travel or lodging.

The theme for SpaceTime 2019 is: “Thrive”, keeping with the theme of the 2019 conference.

Submission Requirements

One entry per student
- A minimal use of text is suggested.
- You should not use any copyrighted imagery for your poster, and you are responsible for copyright related issues.
File Specifications:
- Image size: 1754 × 2481 pixels - A3 (11.69” x 16.54” / 297mm x 420 mm) @ 150-ppi
- Color Mode: RGB (please no CMYK images)
- Image Format: JPEG (.jpg)
- Maximum file size: 2MB
- Name your image: firstname_lastname_s2019.jpg
On the submission form, you will be asked to provide an artist statement (up to 200 words) along with your technical statement (up to 200 words).
