Ed is Professor Emeritus in Computer Science at the University of New Mexico (UNM) and the founding Director of the Art, Research, Technology, and Science Laboratory at UNM. He is also the 2022 ACM SIGGRAPH Distinguished Educator award recipient. In this conversation Ed discusses his experiences as an educator, his perspectives on the future of OpenGL, Vulkan, and other APIs, as well as some advice for young instructors.

The SIGGRAPH Education Committee is excited to announce the expansion of their educator focused In Good Company offerings. In Good company began as an in-person event during the annual SIGGRAPH conference and featured speakers from various organizations giving presentations (not sales pitches) directed toward educators and included classroom use of specialized software, tips, tutorials, and use cases. After a successful launch the Education Committee began conversations about expanding to a year-round program of virtual offerings which was further necessitated by the move to a virtual conference format.

The new series under the In Good Company umbrella features recorded conversations with authors and educators of note, available online and throughout the year. For the launch we are honored to have the opportunity to present an interview with this year’s Distinguished Educator, Barbara Mones!
