Eurographic 2024 - Call for Education Papers

The scope of the track includes topics in education concerned with computer graphics and related areas, relevant teaching/classroom experience, as well as assignments for use in these subject areas. Eurographics invites authors to submit papers, panels and outstanding student projects specifically related but not limited to the following topics:

Teaching Computer Graphics courses to diverse audiences.
Teaching related areas such as Visualisation, Animation, VR/AR/XR, 3D printing, Game Development.
Designing and teaching online and hybrid courses in the areas mentioned above.
Enabling and exploiting visual tools and techniques to teach in other disciplines.
Promoting undergraduate research in Computer Graphics.

Eurographics invites authors to submit their contributions that fall into one of the following categories:

Regular papers [max. 8 pages]
- describing the experience of educators in the fields listed above, bringing ideas on how to make the education process more efficient and interesting, attracting students to further research work, discussing innovative opportunities, etc. Whenever possible, we encourage authors to provide evidence of their effectiveness.
(Catching) assignments [max. 4 pages]
- explaining real assignments, providing examples of handouts and starter codes and examples of student works. Explanations and descriptions of when and how to implement and facilitate the assignments in a semester (e.g., orchestration details) are highly recommended. Providing a description of the assessment method is also suggested. Authors may provide all relevant artifacts as supplementary materials during submission, and agree to provide access to them online upon acceptance.
Outstanding student projects (individual or group) [max. 2 pages]
- should describe the learning context for the project and show how the student(s) brought creativity to their work. Upon acceptance, authors are expected to demonstrate the project during their presentation.

The best regular papers will be recommended to the editors of prestigious journals in the field, Computer Graphics Forum, Computers and Graphics, and IEEE Computer Graphics & Applications, who may invite the authors of these papers to submit extended versions to their journals.

In the context of the 42nd edition of the Annual Conference of the European Association for Computer Graphics, projects and labs have the chance to highlight innovative trends and achievements to the most prominent scientific and industrial community in Computer Graphics. Eurographics’2021, the 42nd Annual Conference of the European Association for Computer Graphics, will take place on May 3 − 7, 2021, in VIENNA, Austria. The 39th Eurographics conference will be held on April 16-20, 2018 in Delft, The Netherlands. The conference is organized by the Eurographics Association covering the wide field of Computer Graphics. Part of the conference is a track on Computer Graphics Education.

We are seeking original contributions for presentation and publication in the EG 2018 education track. CGEMS - Computer Graphics Educational Materials Source - Call for Editors

ACM SIGGRAPH Education Committee and Eurographics Education Board are seeking two co-editors for CGEMS, a peer-reviewed online publication supporting for computer graphics education for a 2-year term to begin January 15, 2017.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis with decision announced by December 2016. Interested educators are encourage to apply here.

Background

The Computer Graphics Educational Materials Source (CGEMS) is a peer-reviewed online repository publishing curricula, course modules and syllabi, lab notes, problem sets, teaching gems, and student work. It is a joint new initiative of the ACM SIGGRAPH Education Committee and Eurographics Education Board to offer peer recognition in computer graphics education and to make available excellent, ready-to-use teaching materials – worldwide and for free, ensured by Creative Commons licensing. Each material is documented with educational goals, methodology, and assessment, and undergoes critique by long-term educators, professionals, and artists.

Appointments

One co-editor will be appointed by the Eurographics Education Board and one co-editor will be appointed by the ACM SIGGRAPH Education Commmittee for staggered two-year terms. Terms will begin January 15, 2017. For the initial period appointment cycle, one editor will be asked to commit to either a one or a three year term to establish desired time offset.

General Responsibilities

Editors will work closely with organizers of for several highly regarded conferences in computer graphics including Eurographics, SIGGRAPH, SIGGRAPH ASIA to identify appropriate juried materials presented in the Education Programs within these conference tracks for inclusion in cGEMS consistent with editorial policies.

Additionally, editors will be responsible for actively soliciting high quality, current resource materials according to the cGEMS editorial policies, communicating with authors throughout the process, facilitating issue resolution related to a cross-organizational, online publication activities.

Participation in an annual meeting is required. An annual report to the sponsoring organization is required. Editors are expected to review and recommend changes to editorial policies and topics least once during their term.

Process

The nomination process will begin October 2016. Self-nomination is encouraged. Interested individuals are asked to complete the online form to provide a statement of interest and vision. Applicants are encouraged to provide a CV to the Chair of either the Eurographics Education Board or the ACM SIGGRAPH Education Committee at the e-mail below. Candidates may be invited to participate in a video call to supplement the written statement. A selection committee with representation from both SIGGRAPH and Eurographics will invite two candidates to serve as co-editors for terms to begin January 2017. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. For full consideration, please submit by November 1. Applicants will be notified no later than December 15, 2016.

Qualifications

Ideal applicants will have a record of research and teaching in computer graphics. Active participation in SIGGRAPH or Eurographics education programs is highly desirable. Applicants must be able to commit sufficient time and energy to actively identify high quality materials and resources.

Applicants must be willing to serve as a catalyst for problems resolution as they arise, communicating effectively with appropriate people in Eurographics and SIGGRAPH.

Teaching Computer Graphics in Context - CGE 09 Workshop report

The Computer Graphics Education Workshop 2009 workshop was organized to explore ideas in computer graphics education with a focus on teaching computer graphics in context. While previous workshops have focused on designing the computer graphics curriculum, this workshop recognized the importance of designing the students' learning experience within the curriculum.

The workshop was held immediately before the Eurographics 2009 conference in Munich, Germany and was co-sponsored by Eurographics and ACM SIGGRAPH. Participation was by invitation based on submitted position papers.
