Title: The Future of Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques

Artist (Student Name): Jamila Shin

Instructor: Bridget Centeno

School: Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro, New Jersey, United States

Artist’s Statement: My piece is a tribute to the timeless pursuit of progress, combining retro aesthetics with a futuristic vision. Inspired by the retro cyber style, I aimed to capture humanity’s persistent pursuit for technological advancement and knowledge. The picture of hands extending into the future, signifying both humanity and technology, represents our shared desire to push limits and discover uncharted territory. The intricate details of binary code and digital screens in the background serve as a reminder of the digital age we live in, where every line of code represents a step forward in our journey of discovery. Through my art, I aim to inspire others to embrace the spirit of innovation.

Technical Statement: My digital art piece was made in Procreate, a raster graphics editor app for digital painting. I utilized a combination of digital brushes (Round brush, Newsprint, Flare), layering techniques, and blending modes to achieve the desired retro aesthetic. Utilizing Procreate’s color balance and gaussian blur, I captured the futuristic look by using cyber aesthetic colors like blue and green. I also captured a 3-D effect by warping texts, outlining the shapes of translucent figures, perspective, etc. The final piece showcases the versatility and precision achievable through digital art platforms.
